Ever since the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi anchored their economies around the tourism and hospitality industry, both have prospered immensely in terms of revenue generation and supporting a large tourist base. Presently, development activities are steaming ahead in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in anticipation of Expo 2020. Considering the pace of development, it seems that the mega event has inspired development throughout the country and now smaller emirates like Umm Al Quwain are joining the bandwagon with an agenda of their own.
In an effort to promote tourism and commercial activities, the Government of Umm Al Quwain and UAE real estate developer Sobha Group have decided to build an AED 25 billion resort development on an island off Umm Al Quwain.
The project, named Firdous Sobha, will comprise an opulent seafront villa community, hotels and resorts, apartment, boutique shops, an 18-hole golf course, water sports centre and wellness spa.
The entire development will be spread across a total area of 53 million sq ft, including the entire Al Seniyah Island and the Khor Al Beidah area of Umm Al Quwain. The attractive feature about this area is that it is one of the largest untouched mangrove wetlands in the United Arab Emirates.
According to the project developers, the scheme will be designed carefully in order to enhance the beauty of the coastal environment. These plans include waterfront homes, ecological zones, canals and lagoons and a marina.
The Umm Al Quwain government is hoping that this particular project will set the emirate on the path to becoming a commercial and tourist hub.
Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla said, “Our strategic partnership with Sobha Group brings an exciting new dimension to our commitment to developing Umm Al Quwain.”
He further said that Firdous Sobha project had been launched to “realise the vision of transforming Umm Al Quwain into an active tourism and commercial destination.”
Meanwhile, Sobha Group founder and Chairman PNC Menon said, “In line with our aim to fully leverage the opportunities present in this highly dynamic market, we have partnered with the Government of Umm Al Quwain, and are jointly going to transform the island into a world-class destination and hotspot for iconic properties.”
