Dubai developer Nakheel has awarded an AED4 million ($1.09 million) contract to ILF Consulting Engineers for sewage treatment plant work at Dubai’s Deira Islands, according to reports.
The Dubai branch of the Austria-based engineering firm will oversee the design and construction of the sewage treatment plant, the first phase of which is scheduled for completion by end of 2017, Gulf Newsreported.
A later second phase will reportedly see the plant’s capacity increased from 20,000 cubic metres per day to 37,000 cubic metres per day, over the period 2022 to 2042.
Nakheel Deira Island’s megaproject is a revamped version of its original Deira Palm and will add 40 kilometres to Dubai’s coastline under current plans.
The scheme comprises four manmade islands, with beachfront resorts, hotels and residential communities.
There will also be a Deira Mall, the Deira Islands Night Souk and a waterpark.
